URBAN DOMESTIC GROUNDWATER USE IN INFORMAL SETTLEMENTS IN SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA: A CALL TO ACTION
This brief tells you that small domestic groundwater users are more reliant on shallow groundwater, and therefore more vulnerable to groundwater level declines and groundwater quality deterioration. It also highlights the ill-defined conditions of formal and informal groundwater governance in urban SSA. The brief argues that groundwater governance is also politically motivated and subject to power dynamics, leading to insufficient trust from many urban dwellers to the formal actors.
